Kenny Loggins Takes Legal Action Against Donald Trump, Demanding $500 Million in Copyright Lawsuit After His Classic Song “Danger Zone” Was Used Without Permission in an AI Video Mocking Anti-Trump Demonstrators During the No Kings Day March

The video — which has since been removed from Trump’s official channels — reportedly featured an AI version of the president dumping waste from an aircraft onto protesters during the recent No Kings Day demonstrations. The footage was set to Loggins’ 1986 hit song “Danger Zone,” made famous by the Top Gun soundtrack.

According to court filings obtained by several news outlets, Loggins’ legal team alleges that the song was used without his consent and in a context that damages his reputation, associating his music with a “disturbing and demeaning political message.”

“Mr. Loggins did not authorize the use of his music in any political or AI-generated material,” said attorney Laura Epstein, representing the artist. “The song ‘Danger Zone’ has cultural significance and was never intended to accompany violent or degrading imagery.”

The lawsuit seeks $500 million in damages for copyright violation, loss of licensing opportunities, and emotional distress, as well as a court order requiring the Trump campaign and affiliated media outlets to cease further use of the song in any form.

The AI Video Controversy

The now-viral AI video first appeared on Trump’s Truth Social account and quickly spread across X (formerly Twitter) and TikTok before being flagged for policy violations. In the clip, a digital version of Trump is seen flying a fighter jet over a crowd of protesters labeled “No Kings Day,” releasing a brown substance on them as “Danger Zone” blares in the background.

While Trump’s spokesperson dismissed the clip as “harmless political satire,” critics across the political spectrum have condemned it as offensive and deeply inappropriate, arguing that it promotes hostility toward peaceful demonstrators.

Loggins, who has largely avoided political controversies throughout his career, reportedly decided to take legal action after his team discovered the video was produced using AI voice and music cloning tools, raising additional questions about AI-generated copyright infringement.

A Larger Battle Over Music and Politics

This is not the first time Donald Trump has faced backlash over music use. Over the years, artists including Adele, Bruce Springsteen, The Rolling Stones, and Rihanna have issued cease-and-desist orders to Trump’s campaign for using their songs at rallies without permission.
