Willie Hugh Nelson, the beloved American country music singer, guitarist, songwriter, actor, and activist, has passed away peacefully at his home in Spicewood, Texas, at the age of 92.

Nelson, known for timeless hits such as “On the Road Again”, “Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain”, and “Always on My Mind”, spent more than six decades redefining the country music genre and advocating for causes close to his heart, including farmers’ rights, marijuana legalization, and environmental protection.

Family members confirmed his passing in a private statement early this morning. “Willie lived his life exactly the way he wanted—on the road, with his guitar in hand, surrounded by family, friends, and fans who adored him,” the Nelson family said. “He brought joy to millions and left a legacy that will echo through time.”

Born on April 29, 1933, in Abbott, Texas, Nelson rose to fame during the outlaw country movement of the 1970s. He became known not only for his unique sound—a blend of country, jazz, and blues—but also for his free spirit, braided hair, and unmistakable voice.

In addition to his music career, Nelson was a tireless advocate. He co-founded Farm Aid in 1985, raising millions for struggling American farmers, and remained a vocal supporter of cannabis reform well into his 90s.

Despite numerous health scares and rumors over the years, Nelson continued touring until late 2024, performing his final show in Austin to a sold-out crowd that included three generations of fans.

President Kamala Harris issued a statement saying, “Willie Nelson was more than a musician—he was a national treasure. His songs helped shape the American soundtrack, and his activism helped shape the American conscience.”

Plans for a public memorial at the Moody Theater in Austin are underway, with tributes expected from musicians around the world

Trump owes the Supreme Court an apology—to the Justices he smeared on Friday and the institution itself. He doubtless won’t offer one, but his rant in response to his tariff defeat at the Court was arguably the worst moment of his Presidency.

NEW: JD Vance flew to Rome to formally invite Pope Leo XIV to join America’s 250th anniversary celebration. The first American pope has declined — days after rejecting President Trump’s “Board of Peace” invitation. On July 4, he’ll be in Lampedusa, standing with migrants — not in Washington — drawing another stark line between the Trump-Vance White House and the Catholic Church under Leo.
