BREAKING: ICE Agent Identified in Fatal Minneapolis Shooting — Public Outcry and Calls for Accountability
Minneapolis, MN —

The Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent who fatally shot 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good on January 7 during a federal enforcement operation in Minneapolis has been identified by the Minnesota Star Tribune and multiple media outlets as Jonathan Ross, a ten-year veteran of ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations special response team.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) itself has not officially released the agent’s name, but Star Tribune reporters verified Ross’s identity through court documents and known details about a previous incident in which he was injured during a separate law-enforcement action last year.

The shooting has sparked widespread protests, both in Minneapolis and in other U.S. cities, as demonstrators denounce the use of lethal force and demand justice for Good. Demonstrators have clashed with federal agents, and local leaders — including Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey — have called for accountability and transparency in the investigation

In the wake of the shooting and the identification of the agent, many activists, community members, and lawmakers are calling for criminal charges or an indictment against the agent involved. Others argue that federal authorities must fully release evidence and allow an independent investigation to ensure accountability and justice.
At the same time, federal officials continue to defend ICE’s actions, emphasizing the dangers faced by officers in the field and reaffirming the need for enforcement operations.

NEW: JD Vance flew to Rome to formally invite Pope Leo XIV to join America’s 250th anniversary celebration. The first American pope has declined — days after rejecting President Trump’s “Board of Peace” invitation. On July 4, he’ll be in Lampedusa, standing with migrants — not in Washington — drawing another stark line between the Trump-Vance White House and the Catholic Church under Leo.
