Backstage drama at The View is at an all-time high with tensions between moderator Whoopi Goldberg and original host Joy Behar at an all-time low, a source close to the show has revealed.
Goldberg and Behar have been in a seemingly endless battle for power behind the scenes, the a source exclusively told DailyMail.com.
‘Whoopi loves having the dominant position on the show and often overrides topics and discussions Joy wants to have during Hot Topics. She knows that Joy is itching for her to leave the show so that she can become the moderator, so while she’s in the position she does everything possible to piss her off,’ one source said. And as news of Goldberg’s antics surface, it has also been confirmed – as DailyMail.com reported earlier this year – that Raven Symone is leaving the show. She will soon take part in a That’s So Raven Disney Channel spin off.
Goldberg, who never hosts the live Friday telecast because her contract calls for a four-day workweek, hosted last Friday’s episode just to annoy Behar, the source claims. But Behar isn’t the only one at the show who’s at odds with Goldberg behind the scenes. The Oscar winner doesn’t care much for former prosecutor Hostin either.
Hostin – a former CNN legal analyst – was a popular guest host all last year on The View and joined the talk show as a full time contributor this season. She’s been on the show at least two dozen times since the new season began.
A source says that Goldberg doesn’t like that The View producers defer to Hostin on issues pertaining to the African American community and resents the fact that the show’s research says black viewers don’t identify with her.
When reached or comment an ABC spokesperson said: This is simply not true and an old story. Wasn’t true then and isn’t true now. There is no clashing at the show. Everyone – including Whoopi and Joy – is having a great time and it shows on air and it shows in the ratings.’
